Error and [Glip]

In the first episode of the Sunbow cartoon, "More Than Meets the Eye, Part One", there exists a scene in which Megatron addresses his recently revived Decepticon troops.  Amongst the bots shown on screen are three unknown cassette bots.  The blue could be Rumble/Frenzy, but there were never any orange or yellow cassettes.  (Of course they were really added by the animators who were not sure yet which characters would be in the show.)  Who were these robots and how come we never saw them again?

I'd like to think that these two bots are a couple of nit-wits that just wandered off on their own and continue to have their own misadventures as they wander the planet Earth.  The profile of Error and [Glip] is inspired by Hamlet's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Lightshow

Introducing the third member of the Rainmakers, Lightshow.  The free-spirited member of the trio, Lightshow is the master of electricity. While Lightshow has only been seen sporting a Cybertronian "tetra-jet" mode on the show, the fact that Hasbro has created an F-15 figure for Acid Storm indicates that the Rainmakers must have made their way to Earth.  So next time you find yourself in an electrical storm and you witness lightning without an accompanying thunder clap, take a look in the sky for a certain canary-colored jet.

Acid Storm & Stormsurge

Today's profiles feature two Seekers from the Sunbow episode "Divide and Conquer".  In that story, Megatron orders three generic Seekers to hamper the Autobots' progress by creating Acid Rain.  Ultimately, the plan fails and the three Decepticons are never seen again.  The green Seeker from the episode went on to receive the name "Acid Storm" and a couple of toys including a Masterpiece figure.  His blue and yellow colleagues were delegated to the dustbin of history.  At least until now...

Introducing Stormsurge, the Decepticon master of wind.  Using his powerful engines he creates incredible winds which he uses to kick up waves, sands, debris, or whatever he finds at hand.  He is definitely the most sadistic of the Rainmakers.

Why the name "Stormsurge?"  Well, because first of all this is my blog so I'll name him whatever I feel like naming him.  But mostly because there are three main elements to any major storm: rain, lightning, and wind.  Lightning is most logical to assign to our yellow friend, so this leaves wind and a blue robot. So Stormsurge it is.

You can probably already guess which character is coming next.

Welcome!

In 1996, Marvel comics release a series of comic books profiling the Transformers that had appeared in the comics, the first two seasons of the Sunbow cartoon show, and Transformers: The Movie.  Subsequent issues of the comics offered additional profiles of some of the Season 3 and Season 4 characters including the Throttlebots, Targetmasters, and Headmasters.

Since that time, the cast of "Generation 1" characters has grown.  Some received entries in Dreamwave Publishing's own profile series.  But this site is dedicated to those characters that were not created in time, or never received their moment in the limelight.  In some cases, they are recolored or remolded toys exclusive to one retailer or another (such as e-Hobby), some are unreleased figures while others are international exclusives.  Still others are characters that appear in some medium but are never identified, often the result of animation errors.  To each of them, this tiny unlit corner of the internet is their own place to shine -
an Island of Misfit Transforming Toys, if you will.
